With their real mask-less faces only ever seen in shadow or silhouette, these killers are remorseless masochistic thrillseekers that cannot be bargained with. ![]() They do not just hunt our heroes, they toy with them mercilessly in painful and gruelling games of cat and mouse. The Strangers themselves are still a genuinely scary threat – motiveless and stalking and slashing for the pure enjoyment of it. Bailee and Lewis’s stereotypes wear away as the film progresses, with Madison and Pullman providing nuanced performances that see them evolve from splintered siblings that pretend to hate each other into fierce badasses with each other’s backs. Hendricks and Henderson pitch their parts as the parents just right – likeable understandable and relatable, and not hesitating when it comes to protecting their family. Under emotional and financial strain – due to sending Kinsey to boarding school to try and temper her rebellious streak – they must pull together to survive the night. Staying at the Catlin Lake site are a family consisting of mum Cindy (Hendricks) and dad Mike (Henderson), and their goth and jock kids: Kinsey (Madison) and Luke (Pullman). “Based on true events”, The Strangers: Prey at Night sees the mask-wearing home invaders taking on something a little bigger this time around, a whole caravan park. The latest instalment is directed by Johannes Roberts ( 47 Metres Down ), and stars Christina Hendricks (Drive), Martin Henderson (Smokin’ Aces), Bailee Madison (Bridge to Terabithia) and Lewis Pullman (Battle of the Sexes). All your non- Purge mask faves.) ![]() ![]() “Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test the family’s every limit as they struggle to survive.”Ĥ7 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts takes the reins from original director Bryan Bertino for the sequel which stars Christina Hendricks, Bailee Madison, and Martin Henderson. “A family’s road trip takes a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park to stay with some relatives and find it mysteriously deserted,” reads the early studio synopsis of the film. The important thing is that the early look is creepy as hell complete with Tiffany‘s ’80s mall-banger “I Think We’re Alone Now” terrorizing victims throughout. Also like the original, Prey at Night claims to be based on a true story, although the last time it was more of a grab bag of true stories, so grain of salt and all that. Just like the last go-around, The Strangers: Prey at Night (aww, that subtitle is cute) sells us on masked strangers terrorizing folks that would really, really, really, really like to not be murdered. The home invasion thrills, chills ‘n’ disturbing kills cult horror hit The Strangers hasn’t exactly hit sequel status at a breakneck pace, but the much murmured about second installment in this would-be franchise has confirmed its existence with the arrival of its first teaser trailer. ![]()
